This role is home based.

Salary:

Initially £6000-£7000 p.a. depending on qualifications and experience.  A working from home initial allowance is also payable.

Hours:

Part-time, average approximately 8 hours per week, flexible except for attendance at formal meetings.

Our council and the role:

We are a small rural parish in Test Valley, about 3 miles north of Romsey, with approximately 800 residents mostly living in the main village settlement. There are 7 parish councillors: the current annual precept is £21,500. The Council owns various assets, including a recreation ground that incorporates a children’s playground, sports pavilion and village hall.  The Clerk plays a vital role in liaising with residents and the Borough and County Councils, maintaining the Council’s documentation and finances, and supporting councillors in looking after and improving the Council’s assets and services.

Duties will include:

  • Attending Parish Council meetings: there are 10 scheduled meeting per year , usually held on Wednesday evenings, plus an annual Parish Meeting and occasional additional meetings (perhaps 1-2 per year). 
  • Preparing agendas, minutes and accounts, dealing with correspondence Including correspondence from residents.
  • Maintaining and updating Council policies and documentation as required and as required and advising councillors on procedural matters.

    The ideal candidate will have/be:

    We are looking for someone with good administrative and IT skills, proficient in the use of  MS Word and Excel. A laptop computer and laser printer are provided.  A strong interest in local community affairs is important.  Knowledge of the legal and financial procedures relating to Parish Councils would be useful, but training is available. and the Council will provide funding for a Clerk to obtain the CILCA qualification if they wished to do so.  A full driving licence and use of a vehicle are essential.
